Starms Discovery Learning Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

“My son is seven in the 2nd grade, Before Starms he has attended SDC, Mary McCloud Bethume Academy, 81st street, and Goodrich. I c=moved him so many times because I didn't feel he was getting the attention, service, and respect he deserved as a special needs student. He has ADHD and was behind in all subjects. Since starting at starms in 8.2009, he is on level for reading, dramatically improved in writing, and taking the necessary steps to improve in Math. Socially he has grown and his attitude toward school and learning has done a complete 360. I love the teachers and the atmoshphere at this school. I also like that they have family classrooms where two different grades levels are combined but separate. Additionally, there's four teachers per family with one who specializes on special education, which in my case is so awesome. I would highly recommend this school U!”

“I love this school! My son started this year. He was reading on level and with in a couple of months he was on level. His writing has always improved. They are great and this is the first school my son has liked.”

“Starms is a place where each child is encouraged to reach their greatest potential. The staff is carring and dedicated to each of their students. Learning is fostered through hands on, real life experiences and students are encouraged to ask questions and explore their environment. Learning is child centered. We love the small groups. The teacher child ratio in these classrooms is around 15:1. They also refer to each classroom as a 'family'. We love starms and have seen our child blossom both academically and socially!”

“Francis Starms Discovery Learning Center is a school of excellence. The leaderhip there is superb. My son has been attending the Starms program for 3 years and he continues to be a curious and motivated learner. The Highscope Curriculum used by all of the teachers encourages creativy, innovation, and problem solving learning. Starm's school culture is diverse and promote activities that speak to to the population being served by bringing in community artists, musicians, authors, and leaders. Lastly, the parents at Starms are involved and participate on many levels to ensure that the school program continues to be one of the best in Milwaukee.”

“I believe that Francis Starms Discovery Learning Center is a wonderful school for any child to be at. I am a student there and can say that Starms is the best school I've been to in my life. Their classes have two different grade levels and are doing excellect on state wide assessments. The teachers there love and appreciate the opportunity of having to work with us students. I go to an inner city school and believe we are doing pretty good. Good enough to have an author of the novel 'Mandalay's Child' come and share his knowledge with us. Now out of all the years I've lived I've never heard of an inner city school have any one famous come to their school. Francis Starms D.L.C is an excellent school I recommend to any parent who wants their child to succeed in life and give it four stars.”
