Milwaukee Montessori School Reviews

We transferred to MMS six years ago when our older children had bad public school experiences. Our three children love Milwaukee Montessori. They look forward to going to school and have made wonderful friendships. I find myself constantly raving about the school to family and friends. If you want a school that is committed to following through with its mission statement, this is it. The students are treated with dignity and respect. The faculty is top notch and extremely dedicated. Everything, from music to athletics, to theater has been fabulous. Mostly, we love that this school meets the needs of all three of our kids, all of whom approach learning differently from one another. They are challenged, happy, and see themselves as capable learners.

My kids love going to this school! My four-year old son is fascinated with math - both geometry and addition - and has a fondess for world maps. My 5th-grader thinks grammer is fun. She especially appreciates the sports program where she is welcome to participate regardless of her skill level. It doesn't hurt that basketball team took first place in their league this year either! In addition to traditional academics, the music and art programs are outstanding. The school community is open, warm, and welcoming. My kids are comfortable and confident - nothing holds them back! It is a great place to be.

We could not be more thrilled with the level of education and social development our son is receiving at MMS. We waited 1 year to get him in and now are enrolling our 18month old. Worth every day we did wait. The structure for independent learning and the respect he learns for himself, his family and the people and things that surround him are immeasureable. At 5 years old he reads, does addition, subtraction, multiplication, and cursive and loves to share this all at home! What blessing this school is!

Both my children attend MMs and we are so pleased with the education they are receiving. They are learning Spanish and French, and learn to work on their own not having some one hand hold them thru the whole day. The teachers and staff are very well trained and the school community is excellent! We look forward to keeping our children at MMS until they graduate from the 8th grade.

My family has been at MMS for ten years. We came initially for the child care when our our oldest daughter was one and we have stayed for the outstanding educational quality and culture of the school. We have found it to provide an outstanding educational environment for both of our daughters. They each have different strengths and learn in different ways. The individualized approach has accomodated both, including one daughter's reading challenges. Most impressive is the diversity of the student body, faculty and staff. We have always found their teachers and the head of school helpful in any issue/challenge we may have with them. Our kids are held to the highest standards. We are very grateful for Milwaukee Montessori School!

I am a deeply disappointed parent. Stories posted here are not evident in our experience. Before enrolling your child ask: How experienced is the staff? Like any school there should be a high degree of expert teachers....use your eyes to answer this one yourself (the head of school will tell you otherwise). Ask about turnover...why do so many kids/staff leave? Does your child have minimal special needs? The inexperienced staff may not recognize them, know how to address them, or have the desire to help! Polite children? Please... There is bullying, name calling, rock throwing and other inappropriate behavior....like any school! A perfect child will succeed there (or anywhere). It is not a school directed in the true vision of Marie Montessori. Parents, staff and students are in an authoritarian environment . MMS is academically discriminatory and exclusive.

My family has been at MMS for 8 years and as our oldest prepares to graduate and go to high school, we are all highly confident that she is more than prepared both academically and spiritually. The life skills she has learned here at MMS will last a lifetime. We are very grateful to have our children at MMS!

My daughter originally started her education in Milwaukee public schools then to Elm Grove public schools. She was having a hard time grasping reading techniques even with one on one help. Neither of these offered after school tutoring. She was excepted to Milwaukee Montessouri and has improved in reading, writting, math, and is alot more confident. She will now read in public, something she would cry about before. I am grateful for Milwaukee Montessouri and the teacher she was given.

Both of my children attend Milwaukee Montessori and they have never once complained about going to school. The children who attend MMS are kind and treat each other with the respect all children deserve. I am very impressed with the learning our children are capable of. The older children help the younger children without being asked. They display an amazing sense of responsibility and self respect that is absent at most public schools. MMS brings out the best in them. The teachers are remarkable individuals who spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week teaching our children how to use their own thoughts and ideas to move forward in life and get the work done. Oh, and of course, they are advanced learners, as a previous review stated. Thank you, Milwaukee Montessori!

My children have been attending MMS for several years and their academic, personal and social growth has been outstanding! It is common to have strangers comment on my children's good behavior, manners and the way they treat each other. I never have to worry about taking them out to nice restaurants, when I introduce them to clients, or if they're being academically challenged at school. This is the 'norm' at MMS, but not at other schools. My first grader is doing mulitiplication and division in her head, reads chapter books for research and fun, writes research papers in cursive writing, and has hands experience with appropriate levels of technology. Where else could a child do this type of extensive and challenging work, and LOVE to go to school every day? Milwaukee Montessori School is truly everything we ever hoped for in a school for our family!

MMS is more than a school - it's a community of parents that really care about their children. It's one of the only places in Milwaukee that I've seen so many people of different ethnic groups come together for a common cause: their kids. The teachers are awesome and know every child by name, even those not in their particular rooms. My daughter feels safe at school and knows everyone. MMS just recently had their school safety procedures redesigned to make the school even safer for the kids. Education throughout life should be Montessori-style. Then maybe more of us would end up finding our passions instead of being stuck with jobs we dislike.

Graduates of MMS are independent, courageous, compassionate adolescents motivated to succeed academically and socially.

My daughter has been a student at MMS for the last year and we are so pleased with her progress. She is learning how to become an independent person who respects her fellow classmates and peers. The teachers are outstanding and care very much for each individual child. We are planning on keeping our daughter in this program as well as sending our other children when they are old enough. We love that our children are being exposed to art, education, language, and much much more. We are always excited and happy to share our experience and encourage others to tour the school, because we believe everybody would be as pleased with the school as we have been. If you are looking for a Montessori school setting for your child, this is a great school with so much to offer to any child.

I have a 5 year old daughter at MMS and her experience has been outstanding! This is her 3rd year with her teacher (multi-age classrooms) and I couldn't be happier with the education she is getting. At 5 my daughter is reading, writing in cursive, adding and multiplying, speaking Spanish and French, learning geography and much more. I am also very happy with the level of arts education at MMS. Montessori learning is not for everybody - some children don't have what it takes to thrive in this environment, but most children have an innate desire to learn and will do very well. I encourage any parent looking for an outstanding Montessori education for their child to visit the school and see what it has to offer!

I attended this school and was forever scarred by the effects of its downright lazy, liberal-to-a-fault faculty. In fourth grade, I spent a year trying to figure out how to do multiplication tables on my own, while my teacher insisted that doing it on my own was the only way I would ever learn. Montessori, in theory, sounds ideal, but it just doesn't work in the real world. Kids need guidance. And the faculty at MMS seem genuinely ignorant on how to do anything beyond babysitting. I am now off to college, and only now learning how to take responsibility for my own education, a little too late. I have forgiven the staff for giving me such a complex/phobia about education, but I still advise against sending your child there.

Our daughter has attended here for K-4 and we have been so pleased with her progress. This school is a complete learning package. She has gained self confidence, a love of learning, respect for others and the environment as well as learning to read! We couldn't be happier with this school.
