MILWAUKEE (AP) – Wisconsin Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson says he's concerned with the Trump Administration's "widespread tariffs" and wants the White House to know "there's some real damage being done" to companies right now.
Johnson made the remarks Monday after meeting with executives of Wisconsin companies to hear how the U.S.'s trade war with China and other countries is already impacting them. Johnson says he'll pass along the businesses' concerns to President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
One of the companies at Monday's meeting with Johnson, Seneca Foods, says retaliatory tariffs imposed by China are costing them as much as $10 million in revenue and might result in plant closings. Wisconsin-based Seneca is a canned fruit and vegetable processor with 25 facilities nationally, including nine plants in the state.
